There are 2 ways you can send the cash: insured or uninsured:
Method A - Safe and Insured
Use a genkin kakitome futo (registered cash envelope). This is a special envelope available at the Post Office especially for sending money through the mail. It is completely safe and insured. If the envelope goes astray, gets lost, or is stolen, the Post Office will reimburse you for the value of its contents (provided you show them your receipt). A genkin kakitome futo costs 20 yen, and the mandatory insurance is an additional 500 yen. These charges are in addition to the cost of membership.
If you use the genkin kakitome futo , please be sure to write your address on a slip of paper and include it in the envelope along with your payment. The address you write on the front of the envelope is torn off when the envelope is delivered, and it is very difficult to read the remaining carbon copy.
Method B - The Cheaper Mail Option
You could also send your payment in a regular envelope. You'll save 500 yen on insurance, but if it goes missing, the Post Office will not give a refund. Money sent in regular envelopes has always arrived safely, but this is no guarantee. If you send your payment in a regular envelope that gets lost, to put it bluntly, you're out of luck.
It's your choice. Since this is Japan , uninsured will probably be fine.
Once you have sent your money, please send an email to outdoorsig-subscribe@yahoogroups.com , and we will confirm it, from which point you will be on the list and it will be plain sailing. The confirmation process means that only members can post to the list, so there will be no junk mail. The level of traffic varies, but it is usually 1-5 messages per day. You can also choose to have each day's messages compiled into one.
If at any point you wish to be removed from the list, just send a mail to outdoorsig-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com , from the email account that you signed up with.
Of course, the best way for you to interact with OSIG is to get outdoors! We are looking for committee members and Ken reps, to help run the show. (Part of the reason for the delay in getting things going was the fact that I broke my elbow, pretty much putting everything out of action for three weeks).
Committee-wise, we are looking for:
A newsletter editor
A website editor
A membership administrator
Email me if you are interested in volunteering.
Ken rep wise, we are looking for someone from each ken to help coordinate things in their area, and publicise events going on there. See the about us section on the website for more details.
