OSIG Events Intro:
At present OSIG sponsors and/or promotes a number of annual events....SEE
BELOW.........
Although independent of any one member they are spearheaded through
OSIGers in the area. If you'd like to go or get involved in any
particular event contact the NATIONAL EVENTS STAFF at events@outdoorsig.com
This page is intended to be a guide to the regular events that
happen every year.
Ultimately we need OSIGers to create events of their own and host
them (we $pon$or them!).... and forward info to us about pre-existing
events.....anything from avalanche courses to triathalons to paragliding
courses. For the latest events information, visit the OSIG Interactive
page and sign up to the mailing list (see the INTERACT page http://groups.yahoo.com/group/outdoorsig/ for
full details).

10 STEPS TO A SUCCESSFUL OUTDOORSIG EVENT!!
Here are ten simple steps you can follow....to ensure a successful
event!
1. Decide the TYPE OF EVENT (e.g. dayhike on Mt Iwate) and the
DATE OF THE EVENT (long weekends allow for OSIGers to come from
farther afield)
2. Decide upon any COSTS involved.....(we suggest having participants
send payment in full in order to register....you can even have payment
sent into the OSIG postal account. Then we can
forward you all the money paid in for the event.)
3. SEND EMAIL TO events@outdoorsig.com
with your idea....and we'll $pon$or it!
4. Send an EMAIL TO THE OSIG EMAIL DISCUSSION LIST: outdoorsig@yahoogroups.com
. This will appear on to the INTERACTIVE PAGE (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/outdoorsig/).
5. Send an EMAIL TO YOUR PREFECTURAL LISTBOT (e.g. aomori@yahoogroups.com
) ....and neighbouring kens (thru the pref rep list...(e.g.
iwate@outdoorsig.com reaches the Iwate-ken area rep).......it's
ok to get non-OSIGers involved....we just ask that they join OSIG
if it's a sponsored event.
6. Get an list of those interested
7. Draw up an itinerary.....confirm with participants.
8. HOLD THE EVENT!
9. Ask a participant to write an article...email it to us (at
newsletter@outdoorsig.com
) within a couple of weeks after the event and we'll publish it
in the newsletter and on the website.
10. An ideal event is:
NOT labor intensive in planning
Can be repeated in the future easily as an ANNUAL EVENT
Is of LOW COST TO PARTICIPANTS

EVENT COORDINATORS
The main core events of OUTDOORSIG are those that we sponsor financially.....(such
as POWDATOPIA and the BONIN ISLANDS PARADISE trip)..... For these
events we always try to find 'Event Coordinators'.....these are
people who are not part of the regular national events staff.....but
rather are just OSIGers that want to get involved on a part-time
basis and be the liaison for THAT PARTICULAR EVENT ONLY......
Such coordinators allow the National Events Staff to better spend
their time and energy in building further OSIG events.....rather
than simply maintaining the core events that we have to date. Of
course the national events staff are there to act as liaison and
advisors to those that decide to help out at an event coordinator.
IF YOU ARE AT ALL INTERESTED IN BEING AN EVENT COORDINATOR please
contact the National Events Staff at events@outdoorsig.com
.......we need your help!!!
Event coordinator positions are available for all OutdoorSIG events
listed below

'MEMBERSHIP HAS ITS PRIVILEDGES'
Annual OutdoorSIG events are not just for those in OSIG. Many of
our more popular events attract those JETs with outdoor interests
who never signed up with OSIG at the conferences. That said.....everyone
who takes part in a sponsored OSIG event MUST SIGN UP with OutdoorSIG
in order to participate. The logic is simply that your fees (500yen
per year) have gone into financially sponsoring the event......and
thus non-OSIGers shouldn't get a free ride. (of course after signing
up with OSIG one gets a full year membership for only 500yen!) ........also
along the same lines OSIGers also receive 'front of the line' service
for events that might sell out ahead of non-OSIGers. SO.....the
trick is to signup for OSIG well in advance! For more info check
out HOW TO JOIN.

Medical Insurance
All JETs should have received a medical insurance booklet or card (you
know..... the little coloured one (approx 10cmx15cm) wrapped in
transparent plastic). It is essential that you bring this card along
with you on any OutdoorSIG events, (such as launching yourself off
the cliffs of Niseko or scuba diving at 35m on the shipwrecks of
the Bonin Islands).
Should you have an injury (knock on wood) you need to have it with
you in order to receive medical treatment.
